Bob's Thoughts - Day 11

We got up this morning and broke camp in Moab to head to Springdale. Once again the leveling jacks did not work properly. We probably lost 30 minutes working through this problem.

The drive to Springdale was uneventful. Matt and I are getting the hang of driving the motorhome and towing the Matt's minivan. At this point, the thing I still dread is going down long and steep downgrades. There have been no problems or close calls, but it is still an adventure to see a 6 mile downhill with an 5% grade.

We arrived in Springdale at around 4:30 and were hook-ed up quickly. We had already decided to bring pizza in for dinner, so we did not have to worry about cooking. We have sometime fed the girls early so that the adults can eat in a less harried fashion. Sometime it works and sometimes....

Upon arrival in Springdale, we noted that the outside temperature was 109!!! The air conditioner in the motorhome was working hard, but the temperature in the motorhome was at 80 at 6:00. Fortunately, the temperature in the desert drops in the evening, and it actually seemed cool when I went to bed at 10:30.

While the kids were getting bathed, I set up a chair outside the motorhome and read - while admiring the view. The RV park (and all of Springdale for that matter) are just about in Zion, and the views of the cliffs from the RV Park (and my chair) were awesome.

Tomorrow we are planning to do Zion National park in shifts. Karen and I will do it the morning (before it gets really hot), and Matt and Steph will go in the afternoon. That way the girls can have an easy day and not have to fight the heat.

Stay tuned for an update on the Zion trip.

Bob's Thoughts - Day 10

Our last full day in Moab and I am not feeling well enough to join everyone on the trip to Canyonlands. Bad headache and sinus congestion...yuck. Everyone came back raving about the day..hopefully Matt can provide an update when he can get an on-line connection that works.

Perhaps just as frustrating is the completely unpredictable and unreliable internet access we have encountered. In locale after locale, we are able to get on the local wifi network, but not the internet. If we can't get on the net, we can't check e-mail or post to the blog. For what it is worth, there is a common thread to this problem. Every locale where we have encountered this problem uses HughesNet for their internet link. To be fair, Matt and I don't know if the problem is with Hughes or with the local RV park people who don't know how to operate the link properly. To post this entry, I waited until the kids were in bed and drove Matt's car to an Internet cafe in Springdale.

Well, now that I am on-line, let me post entries for the missing days to bring you up to date.

Wifi Shmifi

Apologies to everyone - wifi service at our last 2 RV parks has been positively horrible. I've been too frustrated since I composed a lengthy post about Arches which then got totally erased.
At any rate, still having a good time, but desperately trying to cram in this post before the network gets unusable again. Hopefully better connection in Williams.
Bryce tomorrow.
