Hey all, this is the first post under the new viewing permissions. This blog is going to be used to keep everyone updated on the progress of our big RV trip during June 2007. If we missed anyone, please let us know and we'll be happy to add their email address to the list. Also let us know if the process of logging in is difficult and/or annoying, so we can make adjustments if possible.

Less than a week and counting
Things continue to happen slowly, but we're getting there. Faith has started asking regularly how many days are left until the trip. She is very excited to look for puppies at the RV parks we visit. Grandma is sick with the most recent Specter Family Plague. Steph has a nasty cold, Mari is just getting over one. Hopefully all the illnesses will pass before we start out on Saturday.

Preparations continue
With just over a week until launch of the big trip, things are...well, they're not quite 'coming together' yet, but they're moving into loading position if you will. The research part of the trip is mostly completed. The biggest concern we have left is food storage in the limited space of the RV fridge and freezer.
Well, more accurately, the biggest concern we have left is that we'll all murder each other out there on the road for 3 weeks. We are a family of eccentrics, and while most of the time we blend pretty well, sometimes we rub each other the wrong way. With that in mind, I put together a lengthy "TRIP OATH" for us to keep in mind when things get tense. Hopefully it will help us keep things civil. I will be posting that here on the blog sometime soon.

Okay, I'll say something!
I guess if we're going to have a blog, we need to use it. Several times this past week I've sat down to post something, but each time I backed away, thinking I needed to have some amazingly insightful thing to say.
Well...
It's a stinking blog. It doesn't need to be deep and profound every time I post. So I am trying to get over myself and just type something. Anything.
So, I'll talk a little about THE TRIP.
The impetus for creating this blog in the first place was the desire to keep family and friends updated on our activities while we go on a major RV trip this summer. Yup. Call to mind all the cliches if you like, but we are willingly piling our 2 daughters (who will be 3 and 1 1/2 at the time) into my dad's RV and taking off with my parents to see some of the wide open spaces of the west. For 3 weeks.
See, now this is my problem. Now I have so many topics I want to write about...the ORIGINAL trip my wife and I took in 2003 which makes the upcoming trip look like a walk down the street, the CANADA trip last summer which was a warm up to this one and included THE DENNY'S INCIDENT, my thoughts on RVs and staying in RV parks, my thoughts on vacationing and socializing with your parents, the incredible joy of trip planning, and why iPods are so great for someone with an unwieldy CD collection.
Well, at least I now have something to write about next time. In the meantime, let's start a tradition of including a tangentially-related link:

Is this thing on?
Hello world.
We are simple people living in extraordinary times.
Heaven knows why, but our family has a blog now. We'll be using it to keep friends and family informed of our activities and other goings-on, to share any other info someone might be interested in, and perhaps to sporadically post a poorly-informed but sincerely felt opinion about the outside world.
Forgive us in advance for any missteps, faux pas (not sure how to plurarlize that), or other goofy things we get messed up as we figure this thing out. We're all pretty tech-savvy, but completely blognorant.
